about

In late 2007, SLGTM released our fourth studio album Fill Up The Room on K Records. To celebrate, we booked two shows in Chicago (the band was living all over the place then) and asked people what songs they wanted us to play at the record release gigs (on Myspace, probably.) These two shows were by far the most preparation and practice that went into any Saturday live performances, in that we had to re-learn songs that had never been played live or sort out arrangements that hadn't been touched in forever. Many of these songs were never played live again. It was a real in-between time for the band. We'd spent about four solid years touring and working on a record that changed gears from melancholic girl-group/oldies jams to something way more personal feeling. These shows were a flood of all the ideas that had led up to that point, a strange mix of eras and inclinations.

Things were different 13 years ago, and at the time our plan was to professionally record both nights and release a double live picture disc LP with our friends KnockYrSocksOff Records in Australia. The shows went really well, and the band played as good as possibly ever, but within a year the band stopped playing and the ambitious double live plan got abandoned while other things happened instead.

Unexpectedly finding a slew of long-lost recordings during quarantine reminded me of these two special nights in Chicago so long ago, and I got in touch with Erik Hall who recorded them years ago. He still had the janky hard-drives and was able to mix new, great sounding versions of these forgotten jams from two of the more deep-diving nights any version of SLGTM ever managed. Much thanks to Erik for making it sound great, so long beyond the pale.

For the Bandcamp fee-waiving holiday, all proceeds will be donated to Detroit Will Breathe, a direct action group dedicated to fighting police violence and the racist power structures that perpetuate it. I appreciate your support of my music so deeply, but I'd encourage anyone with the means to donate to this group directly as well (or instead.)
